Research project «Comparison of the effectiveness of minimally invasive closure and traditional correction of ventricular septal defects in the early and late postoperative periods» (AP23488091)
Aim of the project: Development of an algorithm for selecting patients to perform correction of ventricular septal defect by occluder transventricular closure method with subsequent study of its effectiveness and safety in children.
Type of the study: single-center, open.
This study will include patients with a congenital ventricular septal defect who have undergone or are planning to have the defect repaired.
Two groups of patients will be studied:
1. Patients with a hybrid method of defect correction (n = 100)
2. Patients with defect correction under cardiopulmonary bypass (n = 100)
Patients in the study groups will be comparable in age and gender. Exclusion criteria were a combination of VSD with other heart defects and concomitant severe somatic diseases.
Expected results: This project is the first study in Kazakhstan on the comparative assessment of methods for minimally invasive closure of ventricular septal defects and traditional correction, with an assessment of effectiveness in the early and late postoperative periods. It is planned to develop a clinical protocol based on the results obtained and create an algorithm for selecting patients to perform correction of the ventricular septal defect with an occluder using the transventricular closure method. This technique is gentle, ensures maximum reduction in the trauma of the operation, without X-ray exposure, in addition, there are no consequences after artificial circulation, unlike the traditional technique. The duration of hospitalization and rehabilitation is reduced, a good cosmetic effect is achieved, and treatment costs are reduced. The specialists in clinics in Central Asia and Kazakhstan are deeply interested in mastering it, so the proposed research is of international significance. Publication of results in peer-reviewed journals included in Scopus and reports at world congresses will contribute to the dissemination of this technique, increasing the professional competencies of specialists at JSC NSMC, the effective development of Kazakhstani science, the development of cooperation with foreign colleagues and the attraction of foreign capital for further research on congenital heart defects.
