MEDICATED HEPATITIS: A "HIDDEN" DANGER IN PHARMACY

«Drug hepatitis: "hidden" danger in the pharmacy

Most patients believe that if the medicine is "prescribed" or "sold without a prescription in a pharmacy", then it is completely safe. But as a hepatologist, I often face another harsh reality: drug-induced hepatitis is one of the most common causes of liver damage today.

Liver is the main filter in our body. Every pill, vitamin or herbal tea we take passes through this organ and is processed. However, even this "filter" has its limits.

What do you need to know?

"Natural" means safe. Often people poison their liver by taking herbal or dietary supplements without control. Some "tea for weight loss" and detox products directly damage liver cells.

Paracetamol and pain relievers. Taking several drugs at the same time during the flu is a real "terrorist attack" on the liver. An overdose of these drugs can lead to acute liver failure.

Danger of asymptomatic infection. The trick of drug-induced hepatitis is that it does not cause pain for a long time. Specialists are consulted only when the whites of the eyes turn yellow and the color of urine changes. But this is the last stage, when the liver calls for help.

🛡 How to protect cookies?

Izbegaite polypharmacy. Taking 5-6 drugs at the same time (especially without a doctor's permission) is a big risk for the liver.

Do not take antibiotics yourself. Antibiotics can damage not only bacteria, but also bile ducts of the liver.

Pass the examination. If you regularly take medications for chronic diseases, it is your responsibility to monitor liver function indicators (ALT, AST, bilirubin) twice a year. The liver is a very patient, but very sensitive organ. Do not subject it to excessive exposure to chemicals. Remember: the best treatment is to stop taking medications without any apparent reason.

When was the last time you had a liver examination?
