Jetstream Technology Successfully Applied in 12 Peripheral Artery Procedures at NSMC

The National Scientific Medical Center (NSMC) continues to implement advanced diagnostic and treatment technologies, further reinforcing its status as one of Kazakhstan’s leading medical institutions.

On May 28–29, NSMC hosted a master class entitled “Modern Approaches to the Treatment of Peripheral Vascular Diseases in Atherosclerosis and Diabetic Foot Syndrome.” The invited expert was Nikita Vladimirovich Litvinyuk, Interventional Radiologist of the Siberian Federal District (Krasnoyarsk, Russian Federation).

Chronic lower limb ischemia remains one of the most pressing challenges in modern vascular surgery. The condition predominantly affects elderly patients suffering from atherosclerosis and diabetes mellitus. It is well established that atherosclerotic lesions of the lower extremity arteries significantly increase the risk of cardiovascular complications and mortality.

As part of the master class, 12 patients with occlusive lesions of the lower limb arteries successfully underwent procedures using the innovative Jetstream rotational atherectomy technology developed by Boston Scientific.

The Jetstream system is an advanced device designed to restore blood flow in peripheral arteries. The technology effectively removes atherosclerotic plaque through specialized side-cutting blades that fragment diseased tissue and restore vessel patency. Plaque and thrombus debris generated during the procedure are removed through active aspiration via dedicated catheter openings.

The master class included both theoretical and practical sessions. Specialists from the National Scientific Medical Center, along with physicians from other medical institutions in Astana, participated in the educational program. Upon completion of the training, participants were awarded certificates.

Events of this kind contribute to the development of professional competencies, the integration of international expertise, and the implementation of modern medical technologies into Kazakhstan’s healthcare system.
